Unsolicitated campaign advice for Sen. Obama: Talk about the unemployment rate!

The top image shows the steady, discernible decline in the unemployment rate under the last Democratic administration (President Clinton). When President Clinton took office, the unemployment rate was 7.2 percent. When he left, it was 4.2 percent.

The second image shows the story under the current Republican administration (President Bush): an immediate rise in unemployment followed by a steady drop, and then a strong second spike up to and including the present moment. When President Bush took office, the unemployment rate was about 4.2 percent. It is now 6.1 percent.

To increase his chances for winning the election, Sen. Obama could articulate these data to the American public. They are striking, and leave little room for rebuttal.
